Highest AMO Scorers, 1989
This was the first year in which the Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO) was held. So for the first time the results of the Australian Mathematical Olympiad in February and the APMO in March were used to select the following students for participation in the IBM/AMO Mathematics School held at Melbourne Grammar School in April.

As a result of examinations during the School, together with AMO and APMO results, the following students were selected to represent Australia at the 1989 International Mathematical Olympiad in Braunschweig, West Germany: Danny Calegari, Kevin Davey, Philip Gleeson, Mark Kisin, Alan Offer, Brian Weatherson, and Christopher Eckett (reserve). Danny Calegari later withdrew from the team and his place was taken by Christopher Eckett.
