Australian Mathematics Teacher Enrichment Project (AMTEP)
The Australian Mathematics Trust has initiated AMTEP in order to provide professional support for teachers of mathematics in Australian Schools. To this end it has accredited the Graduate Certificate in Education (Enrichment Mathematics) with the University of Canberra.
The course enhances teachers' capacity to enrich mathematics for students, particularly those with mathematical talent, in years 5 to 10. It consists of coursework and a school-based research project and can be used as credit for one quarter of a Master of Education Degree.
The course is in three units, the first and last of which can be taught in a number of smaller modules by flexible delivery. The middle unit involves project work and requires a visit to Canberra. Each of the modules attracts a tuition fee of $600.
A limited number of scholarships are currently being offerd by the Trust. These scholarships have value of up to $2000, which can be used to offset the tuition fee and travel expenses in respect to the trip to Canberra.
For further information we recommend that interested teachers contact Steve Thornton , the director of the program.
