AMT announces BH Neumann Award winners for 2012

The Australian Mathematics Trust has announced that three mathematics educators will receive BH Neumann Awards in 2012. They are limited by strict quota to at most three per year for outstanding service to the enrichment of mathematics learning.

The awardees (in alphabetical order, with brief citations) are:

Janine Louisa McIntosh, Victoria

[Janine Louisa McIntosh]

Janine is a former primary teacher from Melbourne, who has been a member of the Challenge Problems Committee for a number of years. She is also one of the authors of the ICE-EM books, which are now published by Cambridge University Press. Janine is still working with the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute.

Graham Keith Meiklejohn, Queensland

Graham has been AMC State Director for Queensland for a number of years. He also worked in the Queensland Education Department for many years as primary school mathematics consultant and while now retired, does a lot of work for Pacific countries.

Wen-Hsien Sun, Taiwan

[Wen-Hsien Sun]

Wen-Hsien Sun is a philanthropic mathematics book publisher in Taipei, who runs the largest mathematics bookshops in Beijing and Taipei. He holds WFNMC’s Erdos Award for his work in helping talented Taiwan students. He is one of the mainstays of regional events including International Youth Intercity Mathematics Contest and makes other international events available to Taiwan students, such as the International Mathematics Tournament of Towns. He introduced the AMC to Taiwan and is the Taiwan National Director for the AMC.
