From Greg Taylor, Chairman of the Australian Mathematics Trust
A new Executive Director for AMT
Peter Taylor will be retiring at the end of 2012, completing more than 18 years of dedicated and
distinguished service as Executive Director of the Trust.
Accordingly, we are looking for an enthusiastic person who is passionate about mathematics and
who sees that learning can be both enjoyable and challenging – a person who also engages readily with people.
The Trust and its many supporters feel deeply about the importance of mathematics and informatics as disciplines,
and their significance to Australian society and the Australian economy.
The Trust’s main underlying aim is to enrich the teaching and learning of mathematics for students
of all levels of interest and aptitude.
The role of the Executive Director is central to the AMT’s mission. The Executive Director is
accountable to the Chair of the Board for the overall running of the AMT, with operational
responsibilities for management, administration and financial well-being, and strategic
responsibilities for the organisation’s profile and maintenance and growth of its activities.
The Executive Director provides high level advice to the Board, and leadership to volunteers,
staff and associated partners of the AMT in developing and delivering the AMT’s wide range of
competitions, training activities and educational publications.
This is an exciting and demanding role, as the Board looks forward to capitalising on the AMT’s strengths
in the evolving Australian educational environment.
The following advertisement has appeared in the press and internationally on the websites of mathematical societies.
